Google is buying random people's facial data for just $5

data

Google is one of the largest technology companies in the world and is constantly working on new innovative projects. It employs a huge number of employees who work on these projects . However , it seems that the company is asking ordinary people to sell their facial data so that it can train the new mobile model it is preparing, the Pixel 4 .

According to one of ZDNet, Google employees approached his friend, named George, while he was in New York and asked him to register his facial data on a "phone in a very large case."

It is speculated that the device that Google employees used to register the columnist's friend's facial data was a Pixel 4 and that in this way, Google is trying to train AI technology on its new model.

As George stated, Google employees offered him a $5 gift certificate for Amazon or Starbucks for interacting with the device for about 5 minutes.

The strange thing is that George didn't even bother to read the document he signed in exchange for his facial data.

When he asked employees if they were the only group collecting data, they said there were other groups in many cities collecting data from random people.

According to XDA Developers, George is not the only one who has reported a similar incident. A Redditor named “oheightthirtytwo” also said that Google employees approached him and asked him to provide his facial data in exchange for a $5 gift card.

This is a rather unusual practice, as we have never heard of Google doing something like this before. However, asking random people to give it their facial data for $5 does raise privacy concerns .We don't know the exact motivation behind Google's move, but we expect the company to ensure that the data is not misused in any way.
