HTC finally announces its first phone for 2019, but there's a problem

Sure, HTC has disappeared from the market of compatible smartphones even though a new mid-range model was recently spotted on a benchmark site. And yes, it will offer a 5G phone expected to be released in the second half of the current year. In fact, HTC's silence on social media was recently broken with a few new tweets, including one revealing that three models will receive Android 9.

HTC

The last phone HTC released was the Exodus 1, a device that supports blockchain and crypto. Today, HTC senior executive Phil Chen announced (via Mashable) that it will offer a lower-priced version of the phone next quarter, which it will call the Exodus 1s. HTC says it will be “a more value-oriented version” of the original and will be priced at $250-$300 compared to the $699 that the OG model cost. The phone’s specifications and other information will be released at a later date.

The blockchains are used for storing encryption transactions. Each new transaction adds a new block to the chain. The blocks consist of encoded information that includes data regarding the transaction listed in the previous section, a timestamp, and data regarding a new transaction. It is considered resistant to hacking since changing a block would require changes to all the blocks and this requires approval from the majority of those using the network.

The Exodus 1s will also feature a full Bitcoin node, which is not available with the Exodus 1. This feature means that not only will the full Bitcoin blockchain history be available through the phone, users will also be able to send Bitcoin transactions to the network instead of using secure wallet . Considering that the entire blockchain is over 200GB, HTC says it will use a technique that will reduce it to 10GB to make syncing to it faster. Also, Chen says that Exodus 1s users will be using Wi-Fi. Those who want to view the full Bitcoin blockchain will need to have an additional microSD card.

The Exodus include Zion, a secure private wallet that allows users to complete crypto transactions and to store, send and receive Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, selected ERC-20 tokens and ERC-721 collectibles. The Zion Trusted UI lets you perform a transaction that includes crypto assets without having to worry about malware stealing your personal data.

While Exodus phones are useful for the secure storage and management of encrypted transactions, you cannot remove the virtual currencies of these devices. We understand that this is very restrictive for those who are not interested in conducting crypto transactions.
