How secure are Cryptocurrency Wallets?

5 types of Cryptocurrency Wallets that someone can use to prevent the possibility of their investments being stolen.

Cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrency Exchanges

It can hold up to a hundred different currencies and tokens, meaning that the user can store all of their coins in one account. This system is not secure from hackers. It is therefore recommended to use it only for exchanges and not for storing cryptocurrencies.

Online/Web Wallets

They require logging into a website or application using a username/email and password. They are very easy to use and for this reason many people prefer them, but the truth is that they are not completely secure.

The user's private keys are stored on the wallet server and this creates a security issue since in this way someone could easily intercept the data and therefore its content. Another risk of the electronic wallet is that it can withdraw the user's access to their cryptocurrencies at any time, by deleting their account, without the user being able to do anything.

It is good not to store large amounts of money in these types of wallets, just as one would not walk around the street with a real wallet with a lot of money.

Software Wallets

It requires the installation of an open source program/application on the computer or mobile phone, but the user does not need to log in. The important thing is that the user's private keys are stored on their device and not on the company's central server, which makes the wallet more secure. In this case, the user should protect their device from malware to protect their Software Wallets by extension.

Hardware Wallets

It is very secure for the user as their private keys are stored on the hardware device and never leave the device, even if they make a transaction. Its price may be a deterrent to someone from choosing it, but the important thing is that it is extremely secure.

Paper Wallets

In this case, the private keys are printed on paper. Ittakes great care and knowledge from the user to create a secure paper wallet so that hackers, due to not being connected to the internet, do not have access to their private keys.
