The Israeli offices of American cybersecurity firm Verint have been hit by ransomware , according to a screenshot posted online yesterday by one of the company's employees
“There is currently a critical issue affecting on-premise Email and Green Zone VDI [Virtual Desktop Infrastructure] services,” reads a warning message displayed on Verint employee computers yesterday.
“If you receive a ransomware pop-up, immediately turn off your machine and notify the IT Help Desk. The IT team is working to analyze and address the issue, while also working with external resources.”
"We are working to address this as soon as possible and will provide updates as appropriate," the internal warning message said.
Multiple sources are reporting that the incident is real and that FireEye's Mandiant incident response team is available to assist with recovery efforts.
Verint itself confirmed the incident to Israeli news sites TheMarker, Calcalist and Globes. “The company’s defense system detected the attack as soon as it began,” a Verint spokesperson said, “and took the necessary actions to prevent it.”.
Verint was founded in 1999 and offers analytics, security, surveillance and business intelligence services. While the company is headquartered in the U.S., the majority of its operations are conducted from Israel.
