Outlook accounts were exposed to hackers for several months

For three whole months, some Outlookwere exposed to hackers.

The data leak began when hackers managed to gain access to a support agent's account from January 2019 to March 28, 2019. Through this, the hackers were able to access multiple users' email addresses, folder names, and subject lines of emails in Outlook.

However, hackers were unable to access users' emails or the attached content within their emails.

Microsoft began notifying users of the breach, with a security email stating: “Microsoft regrets the inconvenience caused by this issue. Please be assured that Microsoft takes the protection of your data very seriously, and our internal security and privacy teams are investigating the issue to resolve it, as well as further strengthening our systems and processes to prevent a similar incident from occurring again.”

Microsoft confirmed that hackers were unable to access Outlook users' passwords, but the company urged users to change their passwords to stay safe.

Furthermore, there was no mention of the number of users affected by the data breach by the company.

For the record, Microsoft has recently been involved in a similar situation, where a hacker managed to break into Microsoft and Nintendo servers and gain access to private information.

And while the data breach has now been contained, Microsoft still needs to take some steps before it becomes the next Facebook!
