How to fix the error detected in Outlook

Have you ever encountered any error in Outlook? Normally, during your interaction with Microsoft Outlook, it is unlikely that an error will suddenly occur and the error message will appear on the screen.

Microsoft is constantly working to improve and enhance the user experience by releasing security updates and fixing updates for the bugs detected or reported by users. Although in some cases the updates released may be the reason behind the error occurring in Microsoft Outlook.

How to fix the error detected in Outlook

Before we discuss more about the updates specifically, let's go over the error first.

When you try to set up rules and alerts and click Rules> and Manage Rules & Alerts, an error message appears on the screen, as shown below:

What caused the issue?

Based on the data collected in the research, this error occurs if you have installed the following Security Updates released by Microsoft:

Outlook 2010: November Security Update

Outlook 2013: November Security Update

Outlook 2016: November Security Update

Consequences due to the issue

Microsoft found and stated that the issue could occur if the user had installed the aforementioned rolling update. Therefore, Microsoft's own security updates were the reason behind the lack of significant impact on mailbox data or other data stored locally on the system

And because of the issue, every time you click on Rules and select Manage Rules & Alerts, instead of opening the rules & alerts wizard, Outlook threw this error: “The operation failed due to a registry or installation problem. Please restart Outlook and try again.”

Outlook

And what's most interesting about this whole issue is that Microsoft doesn't recommend users to remove a security update, assuming that this action is the solution to the problem.

And according to the dialogue that Microsoft acted on, it was stated that the issue appeared due to two different bugs involved in the November. Although the company released a Fix Update on January 8 to address the issue and according to the feedback given, it was acknowledged that for most users, the January Fix Update fixed the problem.

And despite the availability of the Fix Update, many other users are still facing the issue, and it was the second bug to spread over a long period of time, making it unusable for users.

According to Microsoft, they are still working hard to find a solution for the second bug, the situation for the same is currently under development though, we will update this section whenever the solution comes out.

How to fix the problem and get rid of the error?

Those who have installed the Office 365 subscription – C2R version can fix the issue by downloading Monthly Channel Version 1812 (Build 11126.20196). The same issue was also fixed with Semi-Annual Channel (targeted version) 1808 (Build 10730.20264), Semi-Annual Channel 1808 (Build 10730.20264), and Semi-Annual Channel 1803 (Build 9126.2351).
