Everything about Android updates and why they're delayed

upgradesIt's no surprise that Android almost always take a long time to roll out to most users. Quite often, they can take months. Sometimes, they can take more than a year. And sometimes, they may never even be released!

There is one exception, of course: Google releases new versions of Android immediately to its Pixel line of devices, and the same happened with the release of Android 9.0 (Pie) last fall.

It's been six months since Pie arrived, which means it's time for Computerworld blogger JR Raphael to take a closer look at how device manufacturers are behaving when it comes to updates.

Raphael spoke to Computerworld Executive Editor Ken Mingis to break down the findings, as well as discuss how Google's Project Treble works. Treble is the company's answer to the slowdown in update development. It's designed to streamline the process as much as possible, helping hardware developers release updates faster.

Raphael then concluded the discussion with information about why Android upgrades are so important.
