Windows 95 is available again, this time on Mac and Linux!

For Windows 95 fans, the news is particularly pleasant, as it is available again and its installation is already possible on Mac, Linux and Windows!

Windows 95

Specifically, last year, software developer Felix Rieseberg released a version of Windows95 that could run on a number of different platforms, using a framework called Electron. That release was particularly fun because it ran some major applications and games, but Rieseberg released a second version, 2.0, that included a web browser, audio support, and more.

Most impressive of all is that the application offers almost 500MB of free disk space, a feature that offers much more than anyone has thought since they got Windows 95 systems. Also, Windows 95 includes Microsoft Frontpage for creating pages, as well as some other popular games from the good old days, such as Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, A10 Tank killer and Grand Prix Circuit.

Obviously there is no Internet Explorer but there is Netscape 2.0 which is suitable for Windows 95. In addition, there is the “Reset” button which is very important on computers and the upgrade from the first release that supports sound. In simpler words, what Rieseberg created can be described as a “time machine”.

Windows 95 can run on Electron, which is a framework that runs cross-platform applications and uses HTML, CSS, and Javascript to build applications.

However, it should be noted that after installing Windows 95, it is quite possible that the computer will need to be restarted, as some games or applications may crash at first.

You can download Rieseberg's Windows 95 version 2.0 from GitHub here. Note that for Mac, Windows, and Linux, it takes up 300MB of space.
