IE11 will be supported on Windows Server 2012 and Embedded 8

Earlier, Microsoft had decided to abandon the entire old version of Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer 11 is the only version of IE that has been released since then, only Windows Server 2012 and Windows Embedded 8 Standard, faced a compatibility issue with IE11. Three years later, this issue has been resolved.

IE11

Windows Server 2012 & Embedded 8 are supported by Internet Explorer 11

IE11 will be available to Windows Server 2012 and Windows Embedded 8 Standard customers as the classic (or desktop) IE experience. The Modern IE experience will not be supported in IE11 for Windows Server 2012 and Windows Embedded 8 Standard.

Windows Embedded 8 will gain IE11 compatibility as part of a separate update, just like Windows Server 2012. The release date for the update has not been announced, but it is expected to come in just a few weeks.

You can download the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog or simply through Windows Update. But the IE11 update is limited to the desktop application. After the release of IE11 for Server 2012 and Embedded 8, all older versions of Internet Explorer will be practically obsolete, without further updates.

Although some may have been confused about the fate of IE10 because it was released in October 2012. Considering the normal lifespan of Internet Explorer for Windows, it should be valid until the end of October 2022. Microsoft has already given us some doubts about this. The 2016 policy stated:

"As of January 12, 2016, only the most recent version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical support and security updates.".

Microsoft has clarified that IE10 and older versions will not receive updates or support after the upcoming IE11 update. The transition will take effect in January 2020. Many users were eagerly awaiting this update, while many others were happy with the older versions. Now is a good time for all Windows to get used to the idea of the new IE11.

Technically, IE10 can work on Windows systems, but since there will be no more updates, including security updates after January 14, 2020, it will not be right to run IE10 on any device.
