The search engine DuckDuckGo now handles more than 30 million searches per day. DuckDuckGo announced yesterday that it has seen a 50% increase in searches in just one year.
“It took us seven years to reach 10 million private searches per day, then another two years to hit 20 million, and now in less than a year we’re at 30 million,” DuckDuckGo announced in a tweet.
DuckDuckGo publishes its traffic statistics, and you can see the company's rapid growth over the past four years.

DuckDuckGo uses search engines like Bing, crowdsourced websites like Wikipedia, and its own crawler to index search results. The results don't aggressively crawl websites like other search engines, and they aren't as up-to-date as Google or Bing results.
This is the real power of DuckDuckGo for privacy protection. While other search engines compile entire profiles of a user's search habits and behaviors, DuckDuckGo does not collect personal information, does not use cookies by default, and thus does not track search behavior.
DuckDuckGo also uses a method to prevent search leaks, so that the sites you visit through the search engine don't know what you searched for.
With daily reports of data leaks from major companies, whether through sales or bugs, it’s no surprise that services like DuckDuckGo are being adopted by so many users.
If privacy is a concern for you, you can give DuckDuckGo a try. If you’re already using the service, let us know what you think in the comments below.
