Project Atlas – TRON + BitTorrent: When Justin Sun, creator of TRON, bought BitTorrent INC no one knew his plans. Sun paid 140 million USD for BitTorrent Inc and according to reports, Project Atlas is the first project announced after the acquisition.
Project Atlas is an attempt to combine the BitTorrent protocol with blockchain. BitTorrent Inc plans to integrate the functionality into PC clients first and then into mobile apps. Later, they will be able to integrate Project Atlas into third-party apps.
The definition of Project Atlas on BitTorrent Inc's website doesn't reveal too much about the new technology:
Project Atlas will connect the peer-to-peer BitTorrent network and the TRON blockchain network through a series of extensions to the BitTorrent protocol, a custom token, and an in-client token to address existing limitations. This will open a new frontier in cryptocurrency exchange on a global scale.
Basically, what is going to happen is this:
BitTorrent peers will receive some reward in tokens when they seed torrents using their bandwidth and resources. These tokens will have monetary value and although BitTorrent Inc doesn't have much at this time, users will be able to convert the tokens into "real" currency or spend them to unlock bonuses like faster downloads.
Now whether the TRON project or BitTorrent plans to allow users to purchase tokens is unclear at this time.

The Project Atlas team plans to publish additional information about the future and functionality of the project soon.
Project Atlas could provide more incentives for users to seed torrents for longer periods of time. It remains to be seen how users will welcome the
new technology, and whether it will be adopted by third-party applications.
