Twitter has announced that it will be testing a new feature that will allow users to easily navigate between the newest and top tweets in their timeline. The official Twitter account states that only a small number of users will have access to the new feature.

According to the company, the feature will be tested by Twitter in September and will be rolled out in the coming months. However, it will only be tested on iOS users.
If you are one of the users who will be tested, you will see a new button at the top and right of the application, which will change the “Switch to top tweets” setting to “Switch to latest tweets”, offering you the privilege of adjusting the display of tweets in chronological order.
Back in 2016, Twitter changed its algorithm, which allowed users to see the top and most popular tweets on their homepage first, followed by the newest and oldest. With this algorithm, Twitter essentially helped users see the most interesting news about themselves first.
The implementation of the new feature will determine whether and to what extent users find it effective, given that there is a possibility that it may not be functional, as almost all users follow a large number of people and pages and automatically the number of tweets published per minute may be excessive.
Twitter has stated that it is continuously improving its features, while in parallel with this specific test it will test the functionality of both the “Switch to top tweets” and “Switch to latest tweets” settings.
