Microsoft has just confirmed that Windows 10 Redstone 5, the next major feature update for its operating system, will launch with the October 2018 Update.
While no details were given on when development might begin, Erin Chapple, a Microsoft corporate vice president, said at the IFA 2018 trade show in Berlin that more details will be released in the coming weeks as the Windows team works on finalizing the update.
“I am pleased to announce that our next feature update to Windows will be called Windows 10 October 2018 Update,” he said.
“With this update, we’ll deliver new features and improvements to the nearly 700 million devices running Windows 10 that help people make the most of their time. We’ll share more details about the update in the coming weeks.”
According to a report by WindowsCentral, the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, which will also be referred to as Windows 10 version 1809, will begin rolling out to users in early October.
The expected date for this update is September 25th, but as with everything that is still in development, it remains to be seen whether Microsoft will manage to meet this deadline.
Insiders could receive the final build on September 14th, with further improvements shipping by September 25th .
As with every new Windows 10 feature update, Microsoft is expected to release a patch for the October update that will be released to all devices. This update will include all the changes that the Windows development team makes after the launch date.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is working feverishly to complete the October 2018 Update, and several new builds are expected to be released to Windows Insider participants in the coming weeks.
