Nvidia unveils Quadro RTX GPU based on Turing architecture

GPUNvidia 2018 , along with the first three products that will use the first Turing GPU.

It introduced parts of the new Quadro RTX family, the Quadro RTX 8000, RTX 6000, and RTX 5000, which are now Nvidia's fastest graphics cards and are expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of this year. Nvidia says the Turing-based Quadro RTX is the "world's first ray-tracing GPU."

The Turing architecture brings with it higher bandwidth processing due to its 4,608 CUDA cores. It also supports high-bandwidth GDDR6 memory and the latest VirtualLink port – a new connectivity standard that can power next-generation VR headsets, all over a single USB-C cable.

The integration of “RT Core” hardware enables real-time ray tracing for ultra-realistic lighting effects. According to Nvidia, the RT cores can achieve up to 10 gigarays per second, which will be a 25x gain over previous Pascal-based GPUs.

Additionally, the Turing architecture includes “Tensor Cores” designed to accelerate deep learning and neural network tasks. Tensor Cores help with graphics performance, including anti-aliasing deep learning, which is a major breakthrough in producing high-quality motion graphics, according to the company.

While the Quadro GPU series is built for professionals, the integration of VirtualLink into RTX cards suggests the inclusion of this VR link in next-generation GeForce GPUs (Nvidia's consumer-facing cards) as well.

Quadro RTX GPUs are expected to arrive by the end of this year at a price of $10,000, $6,300, and $2,300 for the RTX 8000, 6000, and 5000 respectively.
