Following the official launch of Android 9.0 Pie, Google has released yet another security update for all supported Android devices, addressing multiple security vulnerabilities as well as various other issues reported by users.
The August Android Security Patch fixes a total of 43 security vulnerabilities in structural components of the operating system, including the framework, media framework, system, kernel, as well as several Qualcomm components, both open and closed source.
According to Google 's latest security bulletin , the most serious vulnerability found in the Android framework could allow malicious apps to gain access to additional privileges without requiring user interaction. The update also fixes a serious vulnerability that could allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code.
“The most critical of the identified vulnerabilities is a high-severity vulnerability that could allow a remote attacker to use a specially crafted file to execute arbitrary code by launching a process that requires elevated privileges. The severity of the vulnerability lies in the fact that successful exploitation could lead to the attacker taking complete control of the device.”
The security update also fixes issues with touchscreens, issues with components such as the network stack, Taimen bootloader, and Netfilter, as well as multiple issues with various Qualcomm components.
The Android Security Patch is now rolling out to all supported Google devices, including Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Google Pixel 2, Google Nexus 6X, and Google Nexus 5X, as well as other supported devices.
Android users are urged to update their devices as soon as possible to stay safe.
