The new 15-inch MacBook Pro is advertised as “the fastest and most powerful laptop ever created.” In fact, Mac call it the “beast” of laptops.
Its 2.2GHz six-core Intel Core i7 processor puts it at the top of the list. But what sets it apart from other manufacturers are its configuration options, including an Intel Core i9 with turbo boost up to 4.8GHz.
To buy this laptop, you will need to spend between $1300 and $7000. However, it seems that its fans will have to wait a little longer before getting their hands on it, since many users are reporting a decrease in speeds due to heat. Specifically, the problem is with the i9 models that users can get for $2,800.
While the issue has gradually emerged from Reddit users, it was initially raised by Youtuber David Lee, who discovered that overheating of his i9 model led to reduced speeds while creating a video in Adobe Premiere.
According to Business Insider, some Mac users are returning or at least canceling their pre-orders after the news broke. Redditor IDoHaveWorkToDo is one such user who has returned his Core i9 2019 MacBook Pro.
Lee compared the performance of the MacBook Pro to the Aero 15X, which uses an Intel i7. The Aero machine was able to reach 3.1 GHz with Turbo Boost.
Lee complained that his 15-inch MacBook Pro was unable to maintain the 2.9 GHz speed, which he found "unreasonable.".
He even tried to cool the machine by placing it in the freezer for fun and miraculously, the Adobe Premiere rendering time was reduced to 27 minutes from the original 40 minutes.
Although slowdowns due to overheating are very common for PC users, as Lee mentions, users don't expect this from the MacBook, especially since they pay high amounts to acquire it.
