Google has updated the Android Messages app to breathe new life into classic SMS, while also adding support for RCS–based text messages. RCS, which stands for Rich Communications Services, makes it easier to include multimedia content in messages like images, videos, GIFs, etc.
Google recently launched a useful feature in Android Messages that allows you to send text messages from your computer via the web.
How to send SMS from your computer using Android Messages?
Using Android Messages to send messages is very simple. You need an Android smartphone and a browser running on a computer (Windows, MacOS, or Linux), then follow these steps:
- Download and install the Android Messages from Google Play. This is usually required for non-Android smartphones. The default SMS app on such devices (such as those from Samsung, Xiaomi, Sony, OnePlus) is often made by the manufacturer itself.
- On your computer, open any browser and go to messages.android.com.
- Now, on your phone, open Android Messages.
- Tap the menu button (the three-dot icon) and tap Messages for web.
- On the Messages for web, select Scan QR Code.
- Now, point the smartphone's rear camera at the QR code displayed on the computer.
After that, wait for the code to be scanned and within a few minutes, all your messages will be populated on the computer screen. The experience is similar to what we see in the case of WhatsApp Web and Messenger.com.
How to send a message?
You can open any message thread just like on your phone to read and reply to your contacts. Emojis and stickers can be added to messages. To write a new message, click New Conversation on the left side of the Web Interface.
How to log out of Android Messages?
Simply closing the browser tab doesn't log you out. You'll need to click the menu button next to the messages and then select sign out.
