At $9.99, the small adapter offers exactly what iPhones are missing, the super-popular audio port, and comes in third in sales behind Amazon's Fire TV and Apple.
According to the statistics released, the adapter has had steady sales since it made its debut in October 2017 on the iPhone 7.
It's really strange to see adapters as a steady source of income for Apple, especially given the controversy surrounding the decision to remove the headphone jack.
The iPhone 7 was the first model to be released without this feature, with Apple deciding to go all-in on the Lightning port and offering this adapter to allow buyers to continue using their headphones. On the other hand, while this adapter was included in the iPhone box, it wasn't exactly the most convenient solution, as it made it impossible to use the iPhone with headphones and charge the device at the same time.
As for the reasons why so many people buy the adapter when it was included in the purchase box, it's that not only does it break quite easily, but it's also incredibly easy to lose, as it's light and small and you always have to carry it separately from the iPhone.
This could be why AirPods are the best-selling pair of headphones. It's no secret that many buyers lose their wireless earbuds quite often, so buying a new set is the only option.
