Apple could equip the new iPhone X with 4GB of RAM

In addition to new chips, upgraded cameras, and other minor improvements, Apple's 2018 iPhones could also get a welcome boost in the amount of memory offered by the company.

Leaked information suggests that at least one of the three Apple models to be launched this year will be upgraded to 4GB of RAM, a first in the product's ten-year history.

The iPhone X and iPhone 8 come with just 3GB of RAM, so upgrading the new generation to 4GB would be a welcome improvement given the rapidly evolving hardware.

But on the other hand, don't expect all models to come with 4GB of RAM. There's a good chance this upgrade will only be offered on the larger iPhone X Plus, as Apple could use it as a way to entice more buyers to opt for the larger model. On the other hand, Apple could also offer the RAM upgrade to the OLED models launching this year, while keeping the LCD configuration with 3GB of RAM.

Increasing the amount of RAM provided in the iPhone is a necessary step due to the new hardware that Apple devices feature. The camera, in particular, needs more processing power and more RAM to handle higher-resolution photos and make post-processing adjustments.

This, in turn, means Apple may need to introduce a number of other upgrades, as well as a larger battery to handle all these high-performance tasks. The largest battery in the iPhone lineup at this point is the iPhone X – 2716 mAh, while the iPhone 8 Plus has a 2691 mAh unit.

Larger batteries require more space, and this could indeed be an indication that the RAM upgrade would be a feature of the larger iPhone X Plus, which is equipped with a OLED . The iPhone trio is scheduled to launch in September, so more information is expected to be released in the coming weeks and months.
