Facebook's stock is falling. But why?

Facebook shares fell nearly 7% on Monday amid a data dispute between Facebook and Cambridge Analytica. Cambridge Analytica harvested information from 50 million Facebook users for use in the Trump campaign. Even after the stock plunge, Facebook remains one of the most valuable companies in the world.

Mark Zuckerberg owns 400 million shares of Facebook, and his net worth has fallen by $5 billion. Zuckerberg still owns about $69.5 billion worth of the platform’s stock. That’s enough to make him the sixth-richest person in the world, according to Forbes. Forbes data showed Zuckerberg fell by 6.7 percent — a loss of $5.1 billion — in just a few hours on Monday.Facebook

Facebook stock has recovered, and as of Friday, Zuckerberg's wealth has increased by $2.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index. Despite the rebound, Facebook has taken a significant temporary hit to its net worth, taking its total to $2.2 billion so far in 2018.

The Facebook founder isn't the only tech billionaire to take a sudden hit on Monday. Shares of Alphabet, Google's parent company, fell 4%, and the net worths of company founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin fell by about $1.5 billion, according to Forbes.

Jeff Bezos is doing much better than Mark Zuckerberg in terms of net worth for 2018. While Zuckerberg's stock has been hit with a net decline, Bezos has reached $30 billion so far this year.
