The largest live-hacking experience that has become an institution is here again this year!
After the successful organization of the two previous EthiHak competitions, SecNews joins forces once again with SmartPress, organizing for the third consecutive year, the groundbreaking EthiHak Contest.
This year HackTheBox (HTB) with a link provides the platform for the CTF as well as the hosting and greunion is responsible for the challenges.
Preparations have already begun and are continuing at a feverish pace, as the biggest hacking event of the year will take place on April 18-19, 2018, at the Dais as part of Infocom Security.
EthiHak was born with the aim of all security enthusiasts practicing to the fullest in applying attack tools against real targets and not against fabricated scenarios!
Furthermore, we all hope that EthiHak will contribute to informing and raising public awareness about modern threats, security vulnerabilities, and the means used by now-powerful hackers to bypass security systems.
With your support, our vision became a reality and so for another year, professionals and non-professionals, hackers, security researchers, and even ordinary fans will have the opportunity to compete against multiple live targets, testing their skills.

The good news?
This year's EthiHak competition will also function as a qualifying competition for the formation of this year's national team within the framework of ECSC 2018. (ecsc.gr).
Of course, there is a place for each of you -without exception- at EthiHak 2018! The ECSC 2018 team, which will travel to London this year to compete in this year's ECSC, will be staffed by individuals aged 14-25. What changes compared to EthiHak2017?
In this year's competition, registration in teams will not be allowed and contestants will have the opportunity to compete as units and not as teams.
Finally , don't forget that to participate in the Ethihak competition you will need to bring your personal computer with you. We remind you that this year participation outside of physical facilities will be allowed.
EthiHak CTF – a few words
- There will be a scoreboard that will be visible online from the INTERNET and will be updated in real-time based on the performance of the contestants.
- The CTF will not be a single challenge but a set of challenges that will be scored and evaluated separately.
- Registration for participation will be available online, at a link that will be published soon. So stay tuned!
- The challenges will not be of progressive difficulty, nor will it be required to follow a conventional approach to solve them, without this meaning that they cannot be solved in such a way.
- Even after the final scoring on the scoreboard at the end of the exercise, 1st place will be awarded to the person who received the highest score on the scoreboard.

Registration Process: In order for the registration to be accepted, you must provide VALID information (during your registration) in order to be accepted by the administrators. This means that after checking your information, the registration will be accepted and the user's name will appear on the portal scoreboard.
ATTENTION: Users will be identified by name and username on the day of Ethihak. Participants should be there at 09:00 because the party starts at 10:00 exactly!!
EthiHak 2018 Competition Process
To win the coveted first place, the following rules must be followed:
- One Rule: No Rules – No hints! (Think out of the box!).
- Useful information will be provided at the start of the script, on Wednesday 18/4 at 10:00 exactly!
- Respect for the rules of good behavior should be strictly observed: Respect fellow participants, as you would like them to respect you (e.g. No DDoS, no rioting/hooliganism, etc.). In case of inappropriate behavior, there will be exclusion from the competition as the space will be constantly monitored by conference staff.
- Any attack (physical or electronic) on another company / body / organization / natural and/or legal person of any kind, domestic / foreign, etc. other than the given target company is EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED . Violators will suffer the consequences of the law and the co-organizing companies have no responsibility
- Participation in the competition will be from the premises. However, there will be the right to participate outside the premises. The difference will be that those competing within the premises will have a clear lead in points.
- At this point, we should mention that our underage participating friends are required to have written parental consent to receive the cash prize of 1000 euros, if they are crowned winners.
TERMS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE EthiHak CONTEST
- Only natural persons are eligible to participate in the competition. Employees of HackTheBox, Smartpress and the technology news site Secnews.gr are excluded from the competition
- The duration of the competition is from 18/04/2018 10:00 to 19/04/2018 14:00, when the committee will decide the final winner.
- A valid entry is considered one that contains all the fields of the form correctly completed.
- The winners will be awarded on 19/04/2018 after the end of the competition and will be published on Social Media and on the Smartpress websites of HackTheBox and Secnews.gr.
- Personal data is prohibited from being transferred to third parties.
- Participation in the live EthiHak Competition is FREE!
- Maximum number of participants 80.
