Microsoft has just sent out a new set of cumulative updates for systems running Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607) and Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703).
Since they're not released on Patch Tuesday, the update focuses on non-security improvements as Microsoft addresses general performance bugs and issues affecting Windows and built-in operating systems.
While you can see the contents of each update in the box, it's worth noting that Windows 10 cumulative update KB4057144 bumps the operating system's version number to 15,063.877.
It includes fixes for errors with printing PDF files in Microsoft Edge, as well as various other issues that were primarily seen in businesses.
Windows 10 version 1607 group policy is not compatible with Windows 10 version 1703 or higher group policy. Due to this error, new Windows 10 administrative templates (.admx) cannot be deployed to the Group Policy Central Store. This means that some of the new, additional settings for Windows 10 are not available.
The most significant change this update brings is a fix for AMD computers that have been pushed into a non-power-on state after installing the Meltdown and Spectre fixes released earlier this month. The company doesn't provide any further details about this change, but it's clearly critical for users of AMD-chip-powered systems to install the update as soon as possible.
In the case of cumulative update KB4057142, the list is much longer and includes various fixes with many of them aimed at businesses.
OS version 14393.2034 addresses the bug that affected AMD systems that attempted to install the failed Meltdown and Spectre fixes released in early January.
As with cumulative update KB4057144, KB4057142 is expected to restore full functionality to all AMD devices and keep them safe against the two known hardware vulnerabilities.
