The iPhone X's facial recognition capabilities are great and can be very useful. Now here's something truly terrifying. A Japanese app named Kazuya Noshirohas tweeted a preview of an app he's working on that has the ability to camouflage a user's face using the background (first spotted by Design Taxi). The short, ten-second video shows Noshiro moving his transparent face to reveal different parts of his house through his head!
The result is like a creepy transparent beauty mask, similar to Harry Potter's invisibility cloak. According to Noshiro's tweets, the app was created on the Unity game development platform and uses a fixed camera position to photograph a background and create the illusion. We don't yet know when the iPhone app will be released or what exactly it will be used for. But it serves the same purpose as every other consumer-focused AR effort so far: innovation.
The iPhone X, released in 2017, marked a significant departure from previous iterations of Apple's flagship smartphone. Featuring a stunning, edge-to-edge Super Retina display, it eliminated the traditional home button in favor of facial recognition technology called Face ID. This model introduced an OLED display, which offers deeper blacks and more vibrant colors, improving the overall viewing experience. In addition, the iPhone X featured a powerful A11 Bionic chip, which significantly improved processing speed and efficiency. The combination of advanced camera systems, front and rear, enabled professional-quality photos and augmented reality experiences, setting a new standard in the smartphone industry.
