Mozilla: Sets Google as the default search engine in the Firefox Browser

Mozilla released a number of significant improvements last week, including a change to the default search engine.

The company decided to replace Yahoo with Google as the default search engine after Mozilla prematurely terminated its agreement with the former in order to improve user experience.

Although there is not much information about the reasons that made Mozilla so unexpectedly end its agreement with Yahoo, one of them is certainly the recent sale of the latter to Verizon.Mozilla

The partnership between Mozilla and Yahoo was signed in 2014 and was supposed to last for 5 years. Although Mozilla left early, it is still entitled to annual payments of up to $375 million, according to the terms of the agreement.

"We decided to terminate our agreement with Yahoo based on several factors, including our desire to provide a better search experience for our users. We believe that we will have many opportunities to work with Yahoo again in the future," a Mozilla spokesperson said.

On the other hand, this move is a huge victory for Google since its search engine now powers two of the most popular browsers in the world, Chrome and FireFox.

Let's remember that Google's browser has also replaced Microsoft , thus offering search capabilities to Apple's Siri and Spotlight.
