Arusoft: A Russian company has released a Windows application that claims to be able to rip UHD Blu-ray discs. The new tool, called DeUHD, currently supports a limited number of drives, but it is the first commercially available application that can decrypt AACS 2.0 discs.
Although there is no shortage of movies on the Internet, high-definition content is often very difficult to find.
Not only because the file sizes are huge, but also because the content protection is much better than that applied to regular content. UHD Blu-rays with their strong AACS 2 encryption have been a target for pirates for some time, but they had to be cracked first.
This year, however, saw some significant developments on this front, as full copies of UHD Blu-Ray Discs began to leak online for the first time. While it was not revealed how the rip was accomplished, it was a significant milestone, as was the release of the DeUHD tool by Russian company Arusoft. The company says its software can crack UHD Blu-ray disc protection.
“It is a tool to decrypt UHD discs, and remove AACS 2.0 protections,” the company says.
“DeUHD works in the background to automatically enable read access to a 4K UHD movie’s content as soon as it’s inserted into the drive. It can also copy the disc to your hard drive as a folder or ISO file. You can then play it on your UHD player.”
The software works on all recent Windows operating systems and is compatible with a limited number of UHD units, including the LG WH16NS60 and Buffalo BRUHD-PU3.
The list of supported UHD Blu-rays is not long, but it includes a few dozen popular movies like John Wick: Chapter 2, Passengers, and Terminator Genisys. According to the developers, new movies are added on a regular basis.
