The mysterious Thargoids officially return to the Elite Dangerous universe on September 26th with the promise of wowing players in new unique ways.
Elite Dangerous is empty. The story is based on the fact that we are more or less alone in the galaxy. The only evidence of alien life is the Thargoids, a race of creatures that have been dead for some time. It is essentially a more realistic take on the popular Drake.
So far, humans have been fighting each other or just trying to survive in a vast, empty universe. Some explorers have found remnants of alien civilizations, but nothing more. The return of the Thargoids will completely change the course of things.
There is little to no information about this race. Although some players have encountered ships in deep space, no details have been released. Judging from the short trailer that was shown, it seems that their spaceships can regenerate at a very rapid rate, which should make things really interesting.
Frontier Developments says that update 2.4, called “The Return,” will continue to ship with interactive, narrative-based content. It’s not yet known how this content will be made available, but it will likely be delivered in the form of community events.
The truth is, it would be nice to see something spectacular from Elite. The Return promises to shock players, which is why no more information about the update has been leaked.
If you're looking for solace, the Elite Dangerous galaxy is very large, with over 400 billion systems, so if you don't want to encounter aliens you probably don't have to.
