Equifax, an American company that offers credit reporting and theft protection solutions, has been breached, exposing the personal information of 143 million Americans, or half the country.

It may sound ironic, but Equifax, one of the largest credit reporting agencies in the US, admitted today that it had suffered a massive data breach sometime between mid-May and July, and discovered it on July 29. However, it is unknown why it took Equifax 6 weeks to notify its millions of affected customers about the massive security breach.
The stolen data included consumers' names, social security numbers, dates of birth (for 143 million citizens) and in some cases, driver's license numbers, and credit card numbers (for approximately 209,000 citizens).
The company said some personal information for Canadian and British residents was also leaked. In addition, three senior Equifax executives, John Gamble (CFO), Joseph Loughran, and Rodolfo Ploder, reportedly sold their shares worth about $2 million just days after the company learned of the massive hack.
If you have any relationship with the company in question or operate in America, it is recommended that you visit the website https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com to check if your information has been stolen.
