A leak originating from China's TENAA provides a closer look at the batteries of the new iPhones.
First of all, in a standard iPhone 7 with a 4.7-inch screen the battery appears to have a capacity of 1960 mAh, according to the aforementioned source. Naturally this is undeniably a welcome improvement compared to the 1715 mAh battery available in iPhone 6s. Given that the dual-camera system does not exist in the device, it should provide a significantly longer battery life compared to the model it replaces.
In comparison with the Samsung Galaxy S7 however, which is often considered the immediate rival‑competitor, despite the larger 5.1‑inch screen, the iPhone 7 is far behind. The S7 has a 3000 mAh battery with fast‑charging technology, an option not offered on the iPhone. (Let’s be patient until Samsung replaces the “explosive” batteries).
However, thanks to the optimizations of the upcoming iOS 10 software, the iPhone is expected to “match” the S7's battery life, regardless of the battery's ampere-hours.
Regarding the Plus now, there are some contradictory reports here. While earlier publications mentioned a 3,000 mAh battery, TENAA claims that the new 5.5‑inch iPhone will “carry” a 2,900 mAh battery, upgraded by 150 mAh compared to its predecessor.
The upgrade of 150 mAh is assumed to help the dual-camera system and provide the extra power needed for photo processing. Of course, the rival company Samsung also has the Galaxy Note 7, with its explosive 3500 mAh battery.
These specifications have not yet been confirmed by Apple, and we will surely hear more by Friday, when the first iPhones will be released.
