It's hard not to smile at the video of Serbian artist Dragan Ilić's latest work, in which a robot uses himself as a human paintbrush to create a painting.
In his latest video, Ilyich is strapped to an industrial robotic arm and spins around, creating abstract art on a huge canvas. According to the artist, the work suggests the repetitiveness of industrial production, as well as humanity's increasing subjugation to machines.
“The transformation of the artistic work is placed at a point where the activities of man and machine intersect,” writes Illich. “This results in an interaction based primarily on the need to transcend the limits of the human body.” Illich speaks of cyborgs and robots and their role in artistic and social processes.
