Straight from Thessaloniki, the Greek developers of the GNU/Linux operating system antiX announced last weekend two new releases of the distribution, the stable version antiX 15.1 and the first Alpha build of the upcoming antiX 16.
According to the release notes published on the OS antiX by one of its creators under the name anticapitalista, it seems that the developers want nothing to do with the next-generation systemd init system or any other GNU/Linux operating system that adopts it.
And possibly, the upcoming antιX 16 will have the SysVinit init system, and thus you will not find packages related to the systemd system, such as libsystemd0 or udev-systemd.
Looking deeper into the Alpha version of the antιX 16 operating system, we can observe that it comes with a customized Linux 4.3 kernel. However, since Linux 4.3 has just reached its end of life, the antιX developers will need to eventually upgrade the kernel packages to Linux 4.4 LTS (Long Term Support).
Among other new packages that have been added to antιX 16 Alpha 1, we can observe GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 5, X.Org 7.7 display server, XTerm terminal emulator, eLinks web browser. Also, it is worth noting that there are the irssi IRC client, rsync remote sync utility, Ceni and DHClient for network connections, the smxi/inxi scripts, as well as the antιX Live remaster and persistence scripts.
antιX 16 Alpha 1 is available for download via the sourceforge website, as 64-bit and 32-bit ISO images.
From the corresponding sourceforge website you can also download the new stable version antιX 15.1, which includes all the latest security fixes and bug fixes that appeared after the release of antιX 15.
And of course all versions are free and open source.
