21 government agencies and companies participated in cybersecurity exercises that were conducted in Japan before the start of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games that will be held in Tokyo.
According to AFP, ten different operational sectors from various activities took part in the exercises. Among them were aviation, several banks and utilities.
The head was the official of the prime minister's office, Yoshihide Suga, who told the participants that cyber attacks are becoming increasingly complex and it is important for the government to be ready to manage them.
During these exercises, 100 people took part, and attacks against ministries were simulated. The participants emphasized not only the analysis of the attacks, the extent of the damages and data collection, but also the exchange of relevant information.
The participants were also tasked with public relations activities, with statements and press releases to continuously inform about the developments and the results.
Cyber attacks will already be a serious threat to every Olympic Games and in 2020, who knows how the “battlefield” will have been shaped by technological developments.
Minister of Technological Policy Ichita Yamamoto of Japan noted that the country must make serious efforts before the 2020 Olympic Games. Yamamoto admitted that although they have already made efforts in this area, Japan is far behind the USA.
