Hackers from the RedHack group managed to breach the systems of EGO (ego.gov.tr), a state agency of the Ankara municipality.
After breaching the state agency's servers, hacktivists revealed some of the wrongdoings of Melih Gökçek, the mayor of Ankara.
Hackers claim public transportation department employees are “boosting the mayor’s profile” by registering fake Twitter accounts.
“These accounts are being used to inflate follower numbers and misinform the public,” said representatives of the hacktivist group RedHack. “City officials are working tirelessly to manipulate social media.”
The hackers published screenshots showing email addresses, usernames and passwords of these individuals. The General Directorate email credentials of EGO employees, including those belonging to website administrators, were also leaked.

One of the reasons RedHacks targeted the ego.gov.tr subdomain is because of the collaboration between Tamer Sahin, a famous Turkish hacker, and the mayor of Ankara. The hacktivists said that this collaboration shows that the authorities are starting to panic.
Last year, police arrested scores of people suspected of being linked to the RedHack hacktivists. However, the group denied any involvement with them, and continued to attack high-profile websites.
The hackers added that they also managed to breach a government FTP server, and presented evidence proving that the authorities are using pirated software.
