In recent times, several like-fishing scams have been spotted on Facebook. Scammers impersonate legitimate companies’ Facebook pages, promise all sorts of prizes, and create various stories to “force” users to click the “like” button.
Hoax Slayer reports another message trying to fish for likes.
This time, the scammers are using an image from the funeral of a bomb-sniffing dog that is said to have saved many lives in India.
The dog's image is genuine. The dog, named Zanjeer, detected over 3 tons of explosives and was buried with honors by the police.
There is nothing wrong with respecting the dog's activity, but what the scammers are doing is reprehensible. They are trying to convince Facebook users that "1 like = 1 respect" for the "big dog."
In reality, they are trying to collect “likes” for their Facebook page, which they can then sell on underground markets or use to advertise their own shady products or services.
So, the next time you see one of those “1 like = 1 respect” messages on Facebook, make sure it’s not just another like-catching scam.
