 Android Nougat

According to an official announcement from Google, Android Nougat will include even more security features, inspired by similar features incorporated into the Linux, such as better memory protection and other changes to strengthen the overall security of the operating system against attacks of all types.

Few people know that the Android operating system is nothing more than a modified version of the Linux kernel. And while Android is a standalone operating system, different from GNU Linux, it is at its core powered by the Linux kernel.

Therefore, Google engineers had no reason to ignore the monumental work of thousands of developers who have worked and continue to work on developing the security features of the Linux kernel, especially at a time when Android has become an easy target for hackers.

The first Linux security features implemented in the Android OS were introduced a few years ago in Android 5.0, JellyBean. The developers introduced the SEAndroid feature, which is essentially a “copy” of the SELinux project.

Continuing in this direction, the Google team recently announced the addition of even more security features to Android, again inspired by the latest security features of the Linux kernel.
