This year's edition of the report, titled "How Google Fights Piracy," sheds light on the activities of copyright holders, who fight tooth and nail to defend their intellectual property.

The report, which is published annually, summarizes the actions taken to remove pirated links and other illegal material from Google's database and search results.

The company receives millions of requests to remove pirated URLs every week. You'd be surprised to learn that the requests now made by copyright holders on a weekly basis outnumber the total requests Google received between 1998 and 2010.

The reason behind this huge explosion in the number of requests is the increased awareness of copyright holders, combined with the rapid increase in online piracy and illegal material circulating on the internet.

Last week, Google received a total of 19,204,517 requests to remove results from Google Search. But what is the total volume of requests the company receives on a yearly basis? According to TorrentFreak, during 2016, approximately 523 million requests were made, and this number will continue to rise in the coming months.
