Sure, there was a lot of traffic, but there was no successful attack or anything like last year's Lizard Squad. But finally yesterday, the bad news happened and it crashed, causing nerves among all the fanatic gamers. Sony did not appear to give any explanation and users began to express their complaints on social media.
About three hours after the problem began, the following message appeared on the Playstation : “We are under maintenance and you may be experiencing issues. Thank you for your patience!”
Of course, nothing related to maintenance had been announced previously and it seems that the announcement was an excuse until they could fix whatever went wrong.
8 hours after the initial PSN outage, Sony issued another statement saying that its engineers were working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but rumors were starting to circulate. Many claimed that it was a DDoS attack, without any verification. There was also a rumor that the Network would not be operational until January 7th, but fortunately it turned out to be untrue.
Finally, after about 10 hours, most users were able to reconnect to the Playstation Network. The question now is what Sony's explanation will be. Will it continue to claim that it was maintenance or will it reveal an attack?
