Many hackers have stopped using Pastebin to post data they harvest through targeted attacks, as the service deletes sensitive information in a very short time. However, there are still many hackers who continue to use the site, posting sensitive data stolen from breaches and hacking attacks.
According to research conducted by High-Tech Bridge, over the past 12 months, more than 300,000 user login details were published on the website.
It is worth noting that only breaches that resulted in the leakage of data of at least 100 users were taken into account for the research. In addition, data from fake hacking attacks, as well as data copies, were excluded from the research results.
According to experts, each record corresponding to a data leak contained an average of 1,000 passwords. Also, about half of the passwords published on the website were encrypted.
Finally, the data shows that the largest percentage of data published on Pastebin is related to email accounts (40.9%) and various online services (40.6%), followed by social networking sites (13.1%), online games (2.8%), online payment systems (1.5%) and e-shops (1.1%).
