Xerox PARC: This processor will self-destruct in 5…4…3…2.. – Does this remind you of anything?

Some will certainly find it amazing, others will consider it risky, the fact that researchers at Xerox PARC are creating a new type of encryption processor called the Xerox PARC processor, which is capable of self-destructing if given the specific command.

The researcher has created an encryption processor under the umbrella of DARPA security, which aims to create a way to safeguard top-secret information that is less susceptible to hacking if it falls into the wrong hands.

“The applications we’re interested in are data security and things like that,” said Gregory Whiting, senior scientist at PARC, California. “We really wanted to create a system that was very fast and compatible with all the commercial electronics.”

According to a new report published today, creating a chip that can store encryption keys and self-destruct if it falls into the wrong hands could solve a problem that is as old as encryption itself: how to ensure that the right recipient reads your messages while protecting the data from unauthorized recipients?

However, quantum computers could offer a possible solution to this in the long term, since attempting to read data transferred between two quantum computers would inevitably change the data-state and would also alert users that someone is spying on them. But while quantum computers remain a distant scenario, other more immediate solutions to data security are needed.

So, in order to address this crucial issue, researchers created the Xerox PARC processor.
However, many people expressed their opinion about the Xerox PARC processor. Opinions are divided, some are positive about it, while there is no shortage of negative comments with a dose of fear and doubt.
