France issued a decree that allows internet providers to block a websiteif requested by the authorities. According to the decree, the order must be carried out within 24 hours.
The websites that the French government wants to drastically restrict are those that have content related to terrorism and child pornography.
The questions that arise are reasonable, however, as these decisions not require a court order. What will happen in cases where decisions to close websites are due to incorrect assessments? Moreover, the effectiveness of the measure is ambiguous, since these sites will be available via proxies or VPNs.
What is certain is that sites in the country will be much more careful and responsible in their speech, so as not to promote hatred. Keep in mind that sites also include social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
