The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate has recently conducted targeted investigations at a nationwide level, within the framework of an operation codenamed " Fallen Angel".

More specifically, specialized officers of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate conducted online police investigations, through the special CPS (Child Protection System), with the aim of identifying cases of exchange of marked child pornography files.

The result of the targeted online investigations was to identify instances of illicit behavior by internet users, with the primary criterion being the number and type of files, which were observed to be circulated on various file‑sharing networks.

In more detail, it was verified that internet users, within the Greek territory, using three hundred and thirty-nine (339) different IP addresses, belonging to various service providers, possessed files (images and videos) with extremely hard-core child pornography, suitable for sharing.

The competent prosecutorial authorities were informed about the above and a related order and resolution were issued to lift the confidentiality of communications.

Followed a methodical police and digital investigation of the Cybercrime Directorate, in cooperation with the responsible internet service and telecommunications providers. In this framework the digital involvement of six (6) users – owners of internet connections, in various areas of Athens, Tripoli, Komotini and Rhodes, where yesterday (01-12-2014) coordinated police investigations were carried out.

Specifically in the homes of a 53‑year‑old foreign national of Poland, in an area of Athens, a 45‑year‑old native, in Tripoli and a 25‑year‑old native in Komotini, hundreds of thousands of files (photos and videos) – total size over one (1) TB (Terabyte) – of child pornography material, within digital storage media they possessed and for this reason they were arrested in the self‑evident process.

Furthermore, for two other users – owners of internet connections, specifically a 50-year-old local in Rhodes and a 26-year-old local in the Athens area, it emerged that they had deleted the incriminating files of child pornography material as well as the program they used for downloading and sharing them, and a case file of procedural tactics was filed against them.

Finally, another user – an internet connection owner – is being sought, whose details have not yet been verified by the digital police investigation to date.

From the on-site simultaneous investigations carried out at the residences of those involved, in the presence of a Prosecutor's Officer, a total of fifteen (15) computer hard drives and four (4) laptop computers were found and seized, which will be sent to the forensic laboratories for the necessary laboratory analyses.

The three detainees apprehended through the summary procedure will be brought before the competent local prosecutorial authorities, while for the other participants, the case files that were created have been submitted to the appropriate prosecutorial authorities.
