Puzzlephone: As it appears, Google is not the only company that works feverishly on the development of modular devices that will allow their owners to choose their technical specifications.
After the famous Project Ara, by the American giant, now the Finnish company Circular Devices reveals the Puzzlephone
The mobile-«puzzle», according to the company based in Espo – the «homeland» of Nokia -, is compared to the human organism and is divided into three basic parts: the spine, the heart and the brain. The spine consists of the LCD screen, the speakers and the basic structure of the device. The heart houses the battery and the secondary electronic components, while the brain «carries» the processor and the camera. The company's goal is to create a model that allows easy and economical upgrading of it or the repair of damages without the need for full device replacement.
The renewal comes piece by piece
At the present stage, Circular Devices is in a testing phase of its device standards with Android operating system, however it estimates that it could release its first models within the second half of 2015.
According to analysts, the new generation of mobile phones could generate a new revitalizing trend in the device market, as consumers will be able, for a small cost (and not a large investment), to «refresh» the performance of their phone by simply replacing, e.g., the processor, the battery, or its camera.
