Unfortunately, one of the darkest aspects of the internet has reached Greece, and in its harshest form. We are talking about the Darknet, a 'secret internet', created in the early 90s by the American intelligence services, in order to ensure the secrecy of conversations on the ships of the US fleet that were traveling around the world.
It was and remains a parallel to the internet network, which automatically “erases” the user’s identity. However, this “dark” online world was quickly discovered by criminals around the world, resulting in it falling into the hands of organized crime groups and traffickers of illegal materials, even nuclear waste.
Now the “dark web” has evolved into a parallel world. The world of illegality, as it is now the official website of illegals.
The Darknet user is anonymous, as the identity of their computer, the ID, is not apparent. Even if someone discovers the identity of their computer that has “wandered” in the “dark”, the user’s real identity is altered, resulting in complete anonymity.
US mobsters , and especially the Italian Mafia operating in America, very quickly made the " Darknet " their "icon ", and the paid executioners of criminal organizations began to close "death contracts" internationally through the "dark world", maintaining their complete anonymity.
Cocaine "barons" now have special accounts on the "Darknet" and close deals worth millions of dollars for the sale of cocaine, while child porn traffickers have found the ultimate tool to sell their sick product.
On the "Darknet" you can even find material about the murder of children, as long as you have a few tens, hundreds of euros or dollars to buy the material and always with your anonymity guaranteed.
The investigations in Patras that cause horror
The Cybercrime Prosecution Department made the first arrests in Greece of users of DARKNET, the "dark internet", where rapes, abuses, and even murders of children are carried out.
According to official data, following a joint operation by the FBI, Europol and of course the Cybercrime Investigation Unit, two men, aged 33 and 35 respectively, were located in Patras, who had opened an account on the "Darknet", that is, on the "anonymous internet" and were trafficking child pornography, mainly involving the abuse of minors and even infants.
The identification of the two Patrinians followed a major operation that the FBI, in collaboration with Europol , on the "anonymous" or dark web, to investigate "death contracts" of the American Mafia, in Europe and the USA. While investigating this case, the two agencies "stumbled" upon a "dark web" website that was distributing particularly harsh child porn, with child abuse and even murders.
Two of the traffickers of the material, who even maintained an account on this "dark" website, were Greeks, as it was determined after much analysis that the signal of the two users was "originating" from our country.
A team of Prosecution Police immediately arrived in the Achaean capital and, with laptops in hand, they managed to track down the two perpetrators and eventually reach their homes, as well as their workplaces, as they are both private sector employees.
