Free product returns will bring a boost to online shopping

Have you bought something online and the product was not as you imagined? Are you not satisfied with the purchase and would you like to return it? 40% of all consumers have received, once or twice, a product that did not meet their expectations. However, 36% stated that they did not return this product due to the complexity of the procedures (22%), high or additional costs (21%), or because they considered the process to be time-consuming (10%).

The ability to easily return a purchased item with a click could boost e-commerce penetration in the market, according to a recent survey. 75% of people say they would purchase more items online if they had the option of free returns.

[alert variation=”alert-info”]An overwhelming percentage, 74%, of online consumers state that they research when shopping whether a product offers free returns, while 21% stated that they made purchases because the return policy was free of shipping costs.[/alert]

57% of respondents are in favor of providing free product returns, while only 6% said that this is not necessary. The above are the findings of a survey by Pay Pal in Central and Eastern Europe, which was conducted on the occasion of the promotion of the new Free Product Returns service (PayPal Refund Returns) which is also provided in Greece.

Meanwhile, the e-commerce sector is growing rapidly (25% increase in 2013) mainly due to the low base from which the country is starting. In Greece, the turnover of e-commerce is estimated at 3.2 billion euros compared to 350 billion euros for the corresponding European market. According to the annual e-commerce survey by the E-Commerce Laboratory of the Athens University of Economics and Business, the turnover of this market can, under certain conditions, reach 6 billion euros in the country. In 2013 in Greece, 35% of Internet users made at least one online purchase of a product or service.
