Last month, the International Game Development Association released the results of its developer satisfaction survey, which revealed that 22% of people working in the gaming industry are women. While that’s almost double the percentage (11.5%) from five years ago, it still seems a bit low considering that women make up 48% of the gaming industry.
This disparity is quite common in the software and app development sector, as even tech companies run by women generate 12% higher returns. The next logical step is to encourage more women to enter these fields. That's what Girl Geek Academy, an initiative that aims to teach women the skills to start a business, from coding to mentoring programs from successful entrepreneurs, is doing.
