Some computer users have received a fake email from NatWest Bank, enticing them to click on a link to log in and check, update or confirm their account details.
The email is in HTML format, where by clicking on the URL provided the user is transferred to the phishing website. In case the user trusts the legitimacy of the website, although they can check it through the URL, all the data entered is sent to the scammers.
Miller Smiles has identified the fake website as being located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. They also say the email sender information has been forged and the victim appears to be NatWest Bank, from the address service@natwest.co.uk.
NatWest Bank is one of the largest retail and commercial banks in the United Kingdom, with branches in the Americas, Europe and Australia.
The email appears to be about complaints of unauthorized access to accounts, sent by various customers to the bank. Because of this, the bank usually blocks access to those accounts that it considers vulnerable to unauthorized use.
Users should not follow the link provided in this type of email, because banks' security standards prevent them from verifying details in this way.
