Windows 9 is Microsoft's next big project, and according to people familiar with the matter, the operating system will include some major updates, including the ability to run Metro apps on the desktop.
As you can see in this concept created by Hassaan Ali, the idea of bringing Metro apps to the desktop isn't bad at all and might make sense given the fact that Microsoft is working hard to increase the popularity of this new environment.
The Windows Store, Bing apps, and all the other items installed on your computer could run on the desktop, which could really be convenient for users who want to launch Modern apps without going into the Start menu every time.
Beyond that, Microsoft is also working on bringing back the Start menu in Windows 9, another feature that could clearly make the operating system more familiar and appeal to a wider range of users. It remains to be seen, however, whether Microsoft actually intends to make that many changes to the Windows platform.
