The Chinese government today lifted the ban on the sale of consoles and video games from foreign manufacturers, after months of examination and evaluation of the relevant measure by experts.
The Supreme Council of China had banned the distribution of imported consoles and video games since 2000, arguing that they could negatively affect the physical and mental development of children.
The lifting of the ban practically means that foreign manufacturers, such as Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, will now be able to sell their game consoles in the vast Chinese market, drastically increasing their sales and profits.
The Chinese government has not yet announced clear information regarding the way consoles are distributed in the local market. However, the fact that the sale of Battlefield 4 was banned at the end of 2013 (as the title was considered a threat to national security) means that the Chinese government will be particularly vigilant when selecting the games that can be sold at the local level.
