Google's Pixel 11 event is on August 12th

Google is expected to unveil its new smartphones Pixel 11 at an event on August 12 , launching the refreshed devices about a month before Apple is expected to announce new iPhone models. The move could be a strategic attempt by Google to grab consumer attention before the release of the new iPhones , as it tries to strengthen its position in the smartphone market .

Google's Pixel 11 series will include the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and the new Pixel 11 Pro Fold . Leaked CAD renders suggest that the new smartphones will have thinner bezels and a slightly slimmer design than the Pixel 10. The updated black camera bar adds a modern aesthetic, while the overall design of the devices seems to focus on elegance and functionality.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold, Google's latest foldable phone, is expected to look similar to the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, but with improvements in thickness and camera. Specifically, the thickness of the foldable Pixel is expected to be around 10.1mm when folded and 4.8mm when unfolded. These dimensions make it competitive with Apple's rumored foldable iPhone, which is expected to be released soon.

Google appears to be following in Apple's footsteps when it comes to storage capacity. Last year, Apple discontinued the 128GB iPhone. The iPhone 17 launched with 256GB as its starting capacity. Google plans to do the same with the Pixel 11, offering more capacity to meet users' growing data storage needs.

How much will the Pixel 11 series cost?

However, this year’s Pixel devices may be more expensive. A leak from Europe suggests a €100 price increase on all new Pixel smartphones compared to previous prices. This price increase reflects a broader market trend, with most device manufacturers raising prices in 2026 due to rising prices for DRAM, a key component in smartphone manufacturing.

Apple, for its part, raised the prices of all Macs and iPads in June, and the new iPhones coming this fall will likely be more expensive than the iPhone 17 lineup. Analyst estimates suggest the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could be up to $200 more expensive. That price hike could hurt sales as consumers may turn to more affordable alternatives, such as the new Pixel models.

Google's Pixel 11 series will compete with iPhone 18 Pro Apple's, which Apple is expected to unveil in September. Apple won't have a Pixel 11 equivalent in 2026, as it will hold off on the basic iPhone 18 until spring 2027, but will release the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone. This strategy by Apple shows an effort to diversify its product line and offer more specialized options to consumers.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also set to launch new smartphones before Apple unveils its iPhone 18 lineup. The next Samsung Unpacked is expected later in July, with the company set to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. The latter foldable has an aspect ratio that approaches the rumored foldable iPhone, offering an alternative for consumers looking for innovative designs.

Overall, the launch of the Google Pixel 11 series is expected to reignite competition in the smartphone market, with Google trying to gain market share from Apple and Samsung. Consumers will have more choices, but they will need to carefully consider their needs and budget as the prices of new devices continue to rise.
