Anthropic has announced Project Glasswing, a new initiative that will allow technology companies to use its new AI model Mythos Preview to identify and fix security vulnerabilities or weaknesses in operating systems and web browsers. According to Anthropic, Mythos Preview has already identified thousands of zero-day vulnerabilities.

“AI models have reached a level of coding where they can outperform all but the most skilled humans in finding and vulnerabilities software,” Anthropic said. “Given the pace of AI progress, it won’t be long before such capabilities become widespread, possibly beyond the actors committed to developing them safely. Project Glasswing is an urgent effort to put these capabilities to use for defensive purposes,” the company added.

At the same time, limiting access to select partners underscores the seriousness and potential risk of this technology. The balance between leveraging AI for defensive purposes and preventing its malicious use will be a determining factor for the future of cybersecurity. In this context, initiatives like Glasswing may not just be an innovation, but a necessary evolution in securing the digital world.
