Salesforce unveiled over 30 new AI capabilities for Slackbot on March 31 , 2026, marking the platform's most significant upgrade since its $27.7 billion acquisition in 2021. The update transforms Slackbot from a conversational assistant into a systematic tool capable of transcribing meetings on any video platform, monitoring user activity on the computer, performing tasks through third-party tools via the Model Context Protocol , and acting as a lightweight CRM.

The new features, powered by Anthropic’s Claude, are available now to Business+ and Enterprise+, with a limited rollout to free and Pro users starting in April. Starting in the summer of 2026, Slack will be automatically included with every new Salesforce customer account.
At an event in San Francisco on March 31, 2026, CEO Marc Benioff unveiled these AI capabilities for Slackbot, describing the transformation from a messaging tool to a “systemic operating system,” where employees interact with AI agents, business applications, and each other. This announcement builds on a January 2026 update that first enabled Slackbot to compose emails, schedule meetings, and search inboxes. March’s additions are significantly more extensive.
The centerpiece of the update is reusable AI skills. Users can define a specific workflow once, such as “summarize this campaign” or “create a budget plan for this event,” and save it as a named skill. Slackbot learns to recognize when that task is being attempted and offers to perform the skill automatically, gathering relevant information from connected channels, apps, and data sources without requiring users to configure the process each time.

This expectation that AI can handle repetitive cognitive work without manual configuration has become a core requirement in enterprise software, and reusable skills are Slack's answer to this.
Meeting intelligence allows Slackbot to listen to calls on Zoom, Google Meet, or Slack Huddles by accessing the user’s computer audio through the desktop app. It not only transcribes, but also identifies decisions being made, assigns actions to relevant participants, and delivers a structured summary automatically when the call ends. The desktop agent extends Slackbot’s functionality beyond the Slack app itself, monitoring screen activity and using the user’s agreements, conversations, calendar, and habits to proactively suggest and build follow-ups.
This feature raises significant privacy concerns, as it requires users to provide an AI agent with constant visibility into their computer.
Additionally, Slack is launching a native CRM for small businesses, built right into the chat interface. The Slackbot reads channels, detects when a deal is mentioned or a new contact is entered, and updates those records automatically. Salesforce says that companies that outgrow this lightweight version can move to Salesforce’s full CRM without having to recreate their data.

Finally, Slackbot now acts as a Model Context Protocol client, allowing it to connect and coordinate with any external service that registers an MCP server via Slack's manifest.
